Some of you might have heard there are tramworks happening in Northcote during these upcoming holidays… Guess what? You’ve heard right.
Yarra Trams & Vicroads will be ripping up High Street, Northcote, during the second week. Conveniently located in the middle of the Northcote Kids Festival, we’ll be closing shop for 3 days between Sunday, October 2nd, and Tuesday, October 4th. Have you noticed that there are no shows, workshops, or other events on these days? Due to noise and dust levels, it seemed wiser to take a break.
From Wednesday the 5th of October through until Sunday October 9th, We’ll continue running performances, workshops, and other awesome events at the Northcote Town Hall. What does this mean for you?
Simply that there’s another awesome reason to make this years festival; seeing BIG MACHINES at work along High Street. My kid’s and I had great time in July watching the BIG MACHINES at work in Westgarth, and we’re sure you will too. Most of the noisy work will be finished when we start up in the second week, and won’t effect our shows at all.
Getting There
Coming to our awesome festival during the second week, please keep the following points in mind:
- Allow PLENTY of time for travel. We recommend at least an extra half hour. Come early, get yourselves a hot drink, and enjoy watching BIG MACHINES.
- High Street will be closed to traffic. You can, however, still drive to our festival. The best route is Westbourne Grove via St. Georges Road. There’s plenty of street parking not far from the festival.
- Trams along High Street won’t be running, however the 112 tram on St. George’s Road will take you to stop 27, where you can walk up the hill to the Northcote Town Hall. (approx. 15 minute walk with kids)
- Trains will be running to their usual schedule, and will stop at Northcote Train Station. (approx. 15 minute walk)

Leader Article
Some of you might have noticed a recent article in the Northcote & Preston Leader’s about the tramworks, and how it is effecting our festival. It’s all true. For the record, I’d like to point out we’re very supportive of the tramworks, and the benefits that will be brought to our community for many years to come. It’s a pity however, that Yarra Trams decided that general support for the Northcote Community was enough, and that our festival wasn’t eligible for any additional help.
